This newsletter gets a little bigger beginning with this issue as we've doubled the amount of external newsworthy content.

The recent California Standardized Testing and Reporting (S.T.A.R.) Program test results show the California sign language based education system is broken and is a system that needs fixing.

And the current results are no better than when the California Education Department recognized the poor S.T.A.R. results in 2007.

There is definitely a broken system in the California Education Department and it needs a major overhaul if parents are to become impressed with sign language as an option for their deaf newborns.

Shirley Cranwell Jordan, Retired Gallaudet Professor
JORDAN, SHIRLEY CRANWILL, 76, passed away at home on March 30, 2011. Shirley was born on April 11, 1934 in Pennsylvania but moved as a young child to Flint, Michigan, where she grew up on the campus of the Michigan School for the Deaf, moving to Bloomfield and then Montclair, NJ as a young teen.
